Your lighting can make or break the overall interior look and feel of your home. Lighting that's harsh or overly dark can diminish the enjoyment you take when you're entertaining or relaxing at home. Recessed lighting has always been a terrific option that creates a sleek, attractive look — and now, with LED wafer lighting options, you can do even more to make every room in your home appealing and comfortable.

Why Recessed Lighting Is So Popular
In far too many homes, the existing lighting is outdated and often unattractive — Think about those fluorescent lightboxes that filled too many 1980s kitchens with an unwelcoming glare. Old-school wall sconces that place puddles of light in locations where they do no good also send a message that you haven't upgraded your home in a long time.
When you install recessed lighting in your home, on the other hand, you put light exactly where you want and need it, without adding cumbersome lighting fixtures that can draw unwanted attention. Recessed lighting lets you maintain a smooth ceiling line while bathing your home in light.
Bringing Recessed Lighting Into the Future: LED Wafer Lighting
If you've spent more time than you'd like climbing up on step stools and ladders to replace light bulbs in recessed lighting fixtures, you'll be excited to hear about the latest in recessed lighting: LED wafer lighting.
Light-emitting diode lighting, or
LED lights are by far the top lighting choice for almost all uses these days. That's because they outperform the older options, putting out a more attractive light — yes, even more lovely than the old-fashioned incandescent bulbs that many people still want. And they do this while being more environmentally sustainable and more energy-efficient, which means they bring down your electricity bill a bit. In addition, LED lights last far longer than any other option, with most good bulbs lasting at least 50,000 hours — so you can put that stepstool away.
In some cases, you can retrofit your home for LED lights easily. But if you really want to take control of your home's lighting, LED wafer lights are the wave of the future.
These lights got their name because they're wafer-thin. They only need 2 inches of clearance — so you can finally get rid of those ugly under-the-cabinet fluorescents that make your kitchen counters look a little scary. You can freshen the lighting in under-the-stairs cabinets and basements that don't provide much clearance. And you can use them anywhere you'd install LED or other recessed lights, all with an ultra-thin design.
At Upstate Electrical Solutions, we exclusively use LED Wafer lights from Lithonia Lighting. These lights are extremely attractive with a light-defusing lens. We can even install them along with beadboard paneling or drywall edges, without any need for a recessed housing, if you prefer. And they're absolutely safe to use in damp locations such as showers, Bathrooms, and Patios.
Lithonia Wafer LED lights come in multiple sizes and finishes, so you get the look you want. And the best part about them? They give you color temperature choices.
Your Options With LED Wafer Lighting: Color Temperature Choices
Light bulbs come in different color temperatures. If you love the look of those warm incandescent bulbs that you probably grew up with, but you're not crazy about the comparatively cold look of many fluorescents, you're responding to the color temperature.
Color temperature is measured in degrees of Kelvin, abbreviated K. While light ranges from 1,000K to 10,000K, the color temperatures of lights used for residential and business lighting fall in the middle of that range, typically between 2,000K and 6,500K.
If you're drawn to the warmer lights, you're looking for a light bulb in the lower end of that range. Bright white or cool white lights, which are more neutral in tone, run between 3,100K and 4,500K. Once you've passed 4,500K, you're talking about light that mimics daylight, with its typical blue hue.
The good news with
Lithonia LED Wafer lighting? You get all these color temperatures in one bulb. Now, instead of being stuck with the color of the bulb you bought to fit your fixture, you can choose the color temperature you prefer, switching from one to another whenever you like.
Lithonia offers two switchable wafer-thin LED lights. If you prefer a warmer look, choose the LED wafer that lets you switch between 2,700K, 3,000K, and 3,500K to enjoy warm light in your home. (This option is also a great choice for bars and restaurants.)
The second choice lets you move from warm to cool to daylight lighting, switching from 3,000K to 4,000K to 5,000K. Its versatility makes a great choice for rooms where you want to work sometimes and relax at other times. (And it's an excellent option for offices and educational settings, as well.)
Now you can enjoy the exact look and feel that you want just by toggling a switch. At
Upstate Electrical Solutions we want you to enjoy your home or workplace — and its lighting — to the fullest. That's why we're ready to help you upgrade to LED wafer lighting, so every room in your home feels exactly the way you want it.
